Such an important event doesn\u2019t take place immediately after the accession to the throne because, at that period, the country is usually still mourning. The event is held a few months after the death of the previous monarch. First, it allows people to thoroughly prepare for the ceremony. Secondly, a coronation is considered a fun and joyful event and it is inappropriate to hold it right after the funeral procession. The event is always attended by a large number of distinguished guests from different parts of the world. Other members of the Royal Family, representatives of the nobility and priests also play a special role in the ceremony. Most of them wear traditional ceremonial clothes, which add to the atmosphere of solemnity and sophistication. However, the main role belongs to the Archbishop of Canterbury. The coronation of Charles III took place on May 6, 2023. The whole world was looking forward to this event. People didn\u2019t see such a ceremony for a long period of time. The event was really enchanting and grandiose. Charles III officially became the 13th (after the Act of Union of 1707) monarch of Great Britain. Although the ceremony was scheduled for 11 a.m., preparations began much earlier. About half an hour before the event, Charles III and his wife Camilla left for Westminster Abbey accompanied by a procession. However, it is also worth noting that the event caused some negative reactions among the residents of London. In particular, a few hours before the start of the coronation, people took to the streets of London calling for the abolition of the monarchy. But the protests weren\u2019t large-scale and didn\u2019t lead to any negative consequences. At the same time, guests began to gather in Westminster Abbey. Among them were the first lady of the United States Jill Biden and her granddaughter as well as Emmanuel Macron and his wife. Finally, the carriage with Charles III and Camilla arrived at Westminster Abbey and the ceremony began. Charles III took an oath that was slightly different from the one his mother took in 1953. Anointing with holy oil was the most sacred part of the ceremony, so the King was closed from the public with screens. Later, he was presented with regalia. About an hour after the start, the precious St. Edward\u2019s Crown was placed on the head of Charles III. That moment meant the coronation of the monarch. A little later, the archbishop placed the Crown of Queen Mary on Camilla’s head, which meant the coronation of the wife of Charles III.
