London is an interesting city with a rich history. Many things were invented and founded in the capital of Great Britain. Therefore, it has always been and remains a pioneer in many spheres. Prerequisites for the creation of a city police <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before the City of London Police was officially established, the law enforcement function in the city was usually performed by watchmen and constables. Sometimes, if necessary, the city involved the military, but such a decision was taken in extremely serious situations. For example, the government involved the army in resolving mass riots. In any case, even such measures weren\u2019t always effective. First, those services had no clear action algorithms. Secondly, there was almost no service for the investigation of the crimes. Thirdly, due to the industrial revolution in London, the population began to grow at a rapid pace and the guards simply couldn\u2019t physically control so many people. Therefore, small semi-official crime-fighting services started to emerge in the city. For example, in 1748, the writer Henry Fielding founded a detective service, which consisted of eight policemen who investigated cases of local constables. At that time, it was also common for a community to hire a person to catch a thief and bring him to court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The creation of the water police in 1798 became a significant event. Its main goal was to prevent the theft of boats. That service had a structure and acted according to established rules and regulations. Thus, their police activity turned out to be very successful. During the first year of its existence, representatives of the service managed to catch about 2,000 criminals. The foundation of the mounted unit in 1805 was also quite an important moment in the history of the London police. That service played a major role in law enforcement. However, the city still lacked a clearer structured service. It led to the creation of the City of London Police. The act of its official foundation was adopted in 1829.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, the City of London Police included two previously created services, the water police and the mounted unit. The commissioner was appointed as the head of this police body. In general, the creation of the service was something radically new for London. That novelty was present even in the name of the ranks, which weren\u2019t similar to those already existing in the army of that time.
