They are the driving force of the capital of Great Britain. The future development of many spheres depends on them. Therefore, one of the most important programmes of the Mayor of London is the one related to education. It is primarily aimed at qualitative changes in the lives of children and youth through the implementation of various services and projects adapted to their needs. Such government actions provide opportunities to plunge into social life as well as to get all the necessary skills and knowledge that will help realise yourself in the future. So, what are the main goals of the strategy and what projects were created to achieve them? Therefore, the Mayor’s team cooperates directly with young people and involves various partner organisations, educational institutions and individual specialists. One of the main goals is to preserve the child’s physical and mental health. The programme also provides for the practical use of the skills and knowledge acquired during studies. Another important factor for personality formation is gaining confidence in the social environment and the ability to establish high-quality communication. In such a way, young people, supported by the coordinated actions of parents, teachers and other adults, confidently step into a bright future.

Projects for children’s development

The main philosophy of the Mayor’s strategy for children’s development is solving problems at the initial stage. Probably, all of us faced childhood psychological traumas, which later led to major adult problems. That is why London authorities are trying to fulfil every child’s right to a happy childhood. The London Family Fund, which is designed to help London families, serves this very purpose. In addition, the City Hall is working with ESOL to provide Londoners with innovative childcare-related programmes. In 2019, the city conducted a study to single out specific tasks. Then it underlay a report containing the main criteria that directly affect the development of children. Some of them were the employment rate of mothers and the availability of free early education.

Changes in school life

In addition to the usual norms of school education provided by the state curriculum, there are additional projects aimed at the development of London students. One of the most global is Healthy Schools London. It involves representatives of the city’s schools (children, teachers and other employees). Its projects vary in subject matter, format and scope. Healthy Schools London has three award levels (Gold, Silver and Bronze). The main goal of the programme is to improve the students’ well-being.

Preparation of the youth for further professional activities

Photo resource: Greater London Authority

One of the most important goals of the strategy is to give young people the opportunity to use their knowledge in practice. Therefore, there is a separate branch of the general educational programme, which promotes the professional training of students at London schools, colleges and universities. For example, London Careers acts as a kind of connecting link between employers and city educational institutions. It allows children to participate in various competitions, webinars and other interesting events related to their future careers. The above-mentioned information is noted by the Greater London Authority.

London is a city with lots of young people.
